TarbagatayMunay JV (TBM)
Kuat Energy Group since 1996 invested its own funds for exploration of oil and gas
in the 8,329 km2frontier block in the East Kazakhstan at the border with China and
successfully discovered a few heavy oil fields and a stranded small gas field in 90km
from the Chinese border.
While exiting from the project as a shareholder in 2009, the Group remained as an Operator of the project and through unconventional thinking helped to unlock value of the stranded small gas field by an integrated upstream-downstream development which included building 0.5 BCMA LNG plant on another side of the
China-Kazakhstan border and building first private export transborder gas pipeline in Central Asia, which led to start of gas export to China in 2013.
Under the Kuat Energy Group operatorship extensive exploration activities were
conducted (517km² 3D seismic and 2,366km 2D– onshore and offshore), significant
oil and gas discoveries were made, facilities and infrastructure were built
(basecamp for 260 people, Gas CPF, 92 km gas pipeline, Oil Gathering Station), 57 wells were drilled mainly by own drilling rig and crew
Turkmenistan
In Turkmenistan, Berlanga Turkmenistan B.V. negotiated a PSA for one of the offshore blocks in the Caspian Sea. Unfortunately, due to the long-standing border dispute, the group had to withdraw from the country and close its branch.
